A Tazza in Rosso Antico, mid 19th century

A typical ‘Grand Tour’ object, a souvenir from Rome for mid 19th century tourists. The most famous sculptor was Benedetto Boschetti and the tazza is probably in his sphere .

Rosso Antico (marmor Taenarium) is a marble from Cape Matapan, Greece, imported and used by the Romans.

The dimensions and quality of this tazza, the body and handles are made in one piece, makes this tazza rare.

A similar tazza was sold at Christie’s Grand Tour Sale October 1998.

Price: £28,000
