A rare Irish mahogany carved rococo mirror, c.1750
With organic elements of flowers, vines, leaves, shells, icicles and rocaille work. The shell crest is flanked by robust corner carvings of peonies or roses over a rectangular frame.
The inner liner (very rare) is carved over the glass with traces of cobalt blue mirrored borders. The plate is original, Irish, c. 1740, in the manner of John Houghton. See "Irish Furniture" by the knight of Glin & James Peill. pp. 76-77 for related examples.
