BACK TO ALL Bookcases & Cabinets

A Late 18th Century Anglo-Indian Table Top Bureau of Rosewood and Ivory

Of small scale yet broad proportions and extraordinarily fine workmanship, this cabinet is an excellent example of the output of the town of Vizagapatam, in India. Comprising fine rosewood cabinetry inlaid with carved ivory, standing on an ivory bracket base. The drop-front opens to reveal darker, richer rosewood and extensive fine ivory-work, including two ivory-carved bookends which withdraw to reveal additional storage. The drawer in the base contains pigeon holes and an original looking glass. From the last quarter of the 18th century.
