A Pair of Mid 18th Century Giltwood Candle Sconces, attributable to William Kent

Of bold and architectural design, these finely carved sconces retain much of their original gilding, framed by acanthus sprays, fruiting swags, and surmounted by a shell cresting. The scrolling arms and classical ornament are characteristic of Kent’s grand Palladian interiors, reflecting his influence on mid-Georgian decorative taste, where furniture and fittings became synonymous with architectural design. Fitted with brass rings for wall-hanging.
