A George III Oval Giltwood Mirror
Of pleasing scale, and crisp, clean quality, the frame richly decorated in refined, Rococo taste, with abundant ‘C’ and ‘S’ scrolls and foliate designs. Dating from approximately 1765.
A comparable pair of mirrors can be found in the collection of Basildon Park, in Berkshire; these were made by James Robinson of Dublin, c.1770, for the Cobbe family.
A further example of Robinson’s work can be found at Newbridge Demesne, County Dublin, and displays similarity of form to this mirror (Glin & Peill, Irish Furniture (2007), p.137).
