An Early 18th Century Lacquer Dome Topped Chest
The chest, or coffer, of slightly tapering form on bun feet, and overscale engraved brass escutcheon, hinges, and key. The surface untouched and dry, the incised gesso decoration exploring unusual muted colourings of turquoises, reds and oranges, and depicting water scenes and blossoming foliage. The interior with original marbled paper lining.
