BACK TO ALL Seating

A Harlequin Set of Six Early 19th Century Yew Wood and Elm Windsor Armchairs

Of pleasing vernacular quality, all in sturdy condition, with gentle patina commensurate with age. The yew wood arms and hoop backs polished by use to a caramel tone, the elm seats displaying rich, dark colour and characteristically bold grain. The slightly splayed, turned legs united by a crinoline stretcher in all but one case, where an H-shaped stretcher – perhaps a later modification – is used. Dating from c.1830.
