A Mid 18th Century Lacquer Trunk

With vivid Chinoiserie scenes executed in gilt and unusually pigmented colourings of burnt reds and muted greens; the overall decoration including sprays of flowers and blossoming foliage, butterflies, parrots and finely drawn borders, with an overscale engraved gilt brass escutcheon, and boldly cast carrying handles to the flanking sides. The interior lid with five silvery-grey flower motifs, with large and ornately shaped hinges to the underside. In untouched country house condition, perfectly illustrating the 18th Century English fascination with the mysticism of the Far East.
