An Attractive and Decorative Late 18th Century Irish Chimneypiece in Statuary Marble.

A fine late 18th century Irish Neoclassical chimneypiece in Statuary marble with richly coloured and figured Convent Siena marble flanking the pilasters and framing the aperture. The legs are decorated with bell flowers hanging from bows in scagliola in the manner of Pietro Bossi, circa 1790. Corner blocks feature budding laurel wreaths around oval patera, reminiscent of intaglio rings. The central tablet offers a decorative floral bouquet with festoons of bell flowers and is flanked on either side by inlaid finger flutes. The piece falls at a transitional point in style heading from Georgian to Regency design.
